Naperville City Championship - Tomorrow! ...yes, tomorrow :)

In 2019, Neuqua Wildcats Rugby and Naperville Warriors played the 1st Naperville City Rugby Championship, naming the trophy after Gary Foiles who was the long time rugby program director for the Naperville Park District and had retired that year.

2020 and 2021 were lost seasons – at least competitively. No HS rugby in 2020 after mid-March Covid shutdowns and only a series of “friendlies” played in 2021.

For this season as we began planning there was still much in the way of unknowns in terms of what the teams would look like and what the competition structure would be that we mutually agreed to place the Championship on hold once more and wait until 2023.

At the urging of our players, a quickly gained consensus within our coaching staff and prompt and welcome agreement from Naperville Warriors coaching staff, tomorrow’s Varsity league match will serve as the 2nd Naperville City Rugby Championship.

The cup is named after Gary as mentioned and includes a custom match ball that was signed by all the 2019 players and coaches. Tradition will be for all new players and new coaches to sign the ball post match. See the attached photo

Get the word out, and see you tomorrow for Noon Kickoff at Commissioners Park!!
